Class Descriptions: The teachers are given the freedom to choose their class names. The differences in the classes are due to the different teachers interpretations of the yoga asanas that area taught. Some teachers go with a flow series and others will teach one posture at a time and then move to the next. My suggestion is that you try the $20 unlimited for a week, try a couple of classes and decide what instructor you like to practice with. Many students will end up going to 2 or 3 different instructors during the period of time they practice here at Yoga in State College. Most of all-- Have FUN! Enlightenment does not need to be serious!
Teachers Bio's:
Doug has been practicing and teaching for 17 years. He learned Hot Yoga at The Studio in West Reading from Mary Ann Blefko, Sarita Rocco, Doe Wails, JoAnn Morrell and Joel Pier. He has attended workshops at Kripaulu, with Erich Schiffman, Rama Berch and Bri Maya Tiwari amoung others.
He has taught over 65,000 students with humor and serenity one posture at a time!
Gretchen is a Yoga Alliance Certified teacher at the 200 Level. She completed her training with Doug Hayward at Yoga In State College where she continues to study, expand, and deepen her practice. "Gretchen's classes are a creative collaboration of various traditions and philosophies, presented in an open-minded atmosphere which encourages the student to express their own unique interpretation and style. All levels are welcome."
Gretchen plans to soon begin pursuing her 500 Level certification through Rod Stryker in the Tantric tradition, as well as obtain various certifications in prenatal yoga, children's yoga, and yoga nidra.
Kristen has been teaching yoga for over 7 years and holds an advanced 500hr yoga teacher certification after training with world-renowned master yoga teacher, Shiva Rea. Kristen has taught over 1000 hrs of yoga classes, certifying her as an "experienced" yoga instructor through Yoga Alliance. Kristen is currently an assistant instructor for Yoga In State College's Yoga Teacher Training program. Kristen's yoga classes are physically challenging and intelligently sequenced to support the natural opening of the body into intermediate and advanced yoga asanas. Kristen's classes take place in a heated room to detoxify and balance the body, while building strength and flexibility....and having fun! Familiarity with sun salutations is recommended prior to attending this class.
Karen Joy has been practicing yoga for over 10 years and has had the pleasure to teach in Happy Valley for 2 years. She studied at Mt. Nittany Institute of Natural Health with Jen Yost and Anne Mascelli. Karen Joy ; who is registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200 level, offers a gentle practice that invites strength, harmony, balance and energy into the body, mind and spirit.
Alex (RYT200) is a grad student and instructor at Penn State who decided it was time to combine her love of teaching and her love of yoga. She recently finished her training right here at Yoga in State College and is super excited to be leading vinyasa-style classes that are great for all levels. Please expect to laugh, be ready to try some new flows, and look forward to hearing some great music!"
Lara started practicing yoga at 17 when the wear and tear of basketball and running took it's toll. Being influenced by styles like Bikram, Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa for 15 years, her classes are suited to any person who has a body, a mind and an inquiry of their life's energy.
She has earned her 200 hr Yoga Instructor certification from Mt. Nittany Institute of Health and Healing and has been teaching yoga for 4 years.
Becca has been practicing yoga for 3 years now and has traveled all over the world studying different forms. From living in LA and NYC, she combines her favorite practice into a heated class with loud hip hop music. Her practice is somewhat challenging making sure you get a great work out and feel refreshed and energized. :)
Lunar Yoga Everyone is aware of the gravitational pull of the moon on the ocean.
This Yoga Class explores the impact of that gravitation on ourselves.
Self study thru asanas and pranayamas lead to a greater awareness of how and why we do what we do.
Lunar Yoga explores our moon fusion bringing about a harmony rather than a battle with the pull of the moon.
